Ham Radio License Exams (FREE!)

Come be part of the "oldest hacking community" by getting your amateur radio license at CactusCon 13! Exams are offered on both days of the conference, free of charge. Study beforehand and pass the exam, or just sign up and show up to see what it's about — most hacker-con attendees can get their Technician license after a couple hours of studying.

The Ham Radio Village Fox Hunt

Presented by EvilMog

Put your radio direction-finding skills to the test with the HRV Fox Hunt! Locate a hidden transmitter using a VHF radio — bring your tape-measure yagi or use the tried-and-true "body blocking" technique. To participate:

  • Watch @HamRadioVillage or @evil_mog for tweets to know when the foxes are deployed.
  • Tune your radio to 146.565 MHz.
  • Find the fox — it broadcasts K0HRV (the Ham Radio Village's callsign) in Morse as well as various songs.
  • Ask the person carrying the fox for an EvilMog business card.
  • Take the card to the HRV, put your contact info on the back, and give it to village staff.
  • HRV draws for the prize at closing ceremonies. You must be present to receive your prize.

Note: hunters are limited to one entry per day.
